A Day at The Met
Yesterday was so packed it’s going to take two posts to cover it all! One of the biggest highlights was visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I’d been looking forward to it for months, especially the Flight into Egypt exhibition. It explores how Black artists, from the late 1800s to today, have drawn on ancient Egyptian art and culture as a source of identity, history, and creative power. It was thought-provoking and powerful, and totally worth the wait. ✨
We also spent time in The Met’s Egyptian Wing, which has nearly 40 galleries and more than 26,000 objects. Seeing the Temple of Dendur and the Tomb of Perneb in person was unforgettable.
While I was lost in Egyptian history, my mom was in heaven in the 19th-century European paintings. She got to stand in front of works by Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, and Gauguin. Her favorites were Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Wheat Field with Cypresses, Monet’s Water Lilies, and Degas’ Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. 🌻
The Met is one of those places where you could spend days and still not see everything. It was an amazing day of art, history, and making memories together in New York.
